Review: A Heart Most Certain

ahmcMelissa Jagears’s latest novel, A Heart Most Certain, is a delightful historical romance. Lydia’s ladies’ aid society challenges her to convince the local Scrooge, Nicholas, to donate to their causes.

Lydia attempts to solicit a donation from Nicholas, only to be rebuffed. He prefers to keep his charity anonymous. Desperate to prove herself to the ladies’ society, Lydia refuses to give up.

Nicholas finally resigns himself to the fact that Lydia won’t easily be deterred, and he decides to educate her in the true value of giving. As they work together, Nicholas and Lydia discover who they really are, and they fall in love. But they face obstacles along the way, and even danger. They’ll have to rely on each other and their faith to make it through.

While I haven’t read any of Jagears’s other books, I found A Heart Most Certain quite intriguing. I loved Nicholas’s character – quiet, reserved, but with a heart full of love and generosity for those society deems unworthy. I did get a little bored with how long it  takes Lydia to figure herself out, but that was just my personal opinion. Other readers may not have that problem. 🙂

A Heart Most Certain releases August 2nd!

My rating: 3.5/5 stars

Recommended for: fans of historical inspirational fiction; those who enjoy Jagears’s other books; those who favor a blend of personal struggles, romance, faith, and everyday life with a hint of danger in their fiction choices

Note: I received a copy of this novel via NetGalley.
