Review: Dangerous Illusions by Irene Hannon

34020275When Trish Bailey’s mother suddenly dies and their charitable foundation’s accountant, Matt, starts acting like a different person, she doesn’t know what to do. When the St. Louis PD rules her mother’s death suspicious, Trish finds herself in the center of an investigation led by Detective Colin Flynn. And when danger comes knocking, she finds an ally – and romance – with the dedicated detective.

Well! First, Colin. He’s loyal, he’s a cop’s cop, and with a name like Colin Flynn, he’s gotta have some Irish in him. I loved the Treehouse Gang: Colin and his childhood friends, Kristin and Rick. The every-other-Saturday breakfasts, the camaraderie, the way they step in and out of each other’s lives…. It’s what a deep, solid friendship should be. And the way he just tucked lonely Trish in the middle of them and shared that with her – whoo-ee, that’s the kind of guy you take home to meet the folks, ladies.

The Matt angle is confusing initially, but I think that’s the point: to keep you guessing until Hannon is ready for you to know for sure. And once I got a little deeper into it, that was one of the most intriguing parts of the book. (#NoSpoilers)

I loved the inclusion of the Phoenix, Inc., team and Mac MacGregor from other Hannon books. I really enjoyed those stories and was thrilled to see those characters again here. This ended up being a great Hannon suspense, and I’m so depressed that I have to wait until next fall for Kristin’s story! The Treehouse Gang doesn’t ride again till October 2018, people. OCTOBER. 2018. Mark those calendars, y’all.

My rating: 4/5 stars
